Irena Grainge was born in Szczecin, Poland, where she completed her primary and secondary education. Although she developed an early interest in music and performance, it would be a few years after to come until she pursued this passion.
After moving to Norway, Irena explored another interest of hers and became a fashion designer. She travelled extensively in the Far East and eventually settled in Singapore with her husband Andrew. Inspired by her surroundings, Irena developed a taste for oriental textiles and classical music. After returning to England, she settled in Cambridge where she continued her career in fashion. Irena’s next stop was Australia where she emigrated with Andrew and her two children. It was here that Irena established her fashion label Image Impact International, which proved to be a very successful mail-order business. While running her business she also began professionalclassical training with various teachers in Melbourne. However, it was the principal tenor of Opera de Paris, Jacque Poitier that was to be the main influence on her voice development and technique. As a lyric soprano, Irena has performed at many venues both in Australia and overseas. Her repertoire comprises of vocal arrangements by Bach, Gluck, Handel, Mozart, Bizet, Beethoven, Verdi Leoncavallo, Schubert and Dvorzak In 2000 she recorded with Alan Kogosowski the complete works of Frideric Chopin's songs. In this CD, entitled From the Heart, Irena uncovered and sung a rare collection of Chopin's pieces
